Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) means investing a set amount on a regular schedule instead of trying to choose the perfect time to buy. A Bitcoin DCA backtest applies that schedule to historical price data. It estimates the total amount invested, the BTC and satoshis accumulated, the portfolio’s current value, and the percentage gain or loss.
SatoshiPlan’s free backtest lets you select weekly, biweekly, or monthly purchases. It uses daily BTC-USD price history from Yahoo Finance and the live BTC price available when the calculation is run. You can adjust the inputs and share a summary of the result.
How the estimate is calculated
Bitcoin bought per purchase = purchase amount in USD ÷ Bitcoin price on that purchase date.
Total Bitcoin = the Bitcoin from each scheduled purchase added together.
Current portfolio value = total Bitcoin × the current live Bitcoin price.
Percentage return = (current value − total invested) ÷ total invested × 100.
One bitcoin equals 100,000,000 satoshis. The calculator converts the estimated BTC total using that fixed definition. Historical prices use daily BTC-USD closing data; the estimate does not include exchange fees, spreads, taxes, or missed/failed purchases.
How to use the Bitcoin DCA calculator
- Choose a start date in the past.
- Enter the USD amount for each purchase.
- Select weekly, biweekly, or monthly frequency.
- Run the backtest to view the estimated investment, BTC acquired, current value, and return.
Try different schedules to understand how timing and consistency affect historical outcomes. Past performance does not predict future results, and a backtest is an illustration—not a recommendation to buy or sell Bitcoin.
